Character NAME: Razputin "Raz" Aquato
Canon & MEDIUM: The Most Excellent (video) Game Psychonauts!
Canon PULL-POINT: The ending, right before finding out about his next mission
Character AGE: 10
Character ABILITIES:
Long story short, Raz is a spider monkey who can bend spoons. Short story long, his abilities fall within two categories: psychic and acrobatic. Raz was a performer in his family’s acrobatics troupe, and spent much of his free time training rigorously to hone his skills. As a result, he can climb, shimmy, slide, swing, and jump from just about anything with a balance and speed unbecoming of a small child. He’s also very resourceful and quick-thinking when it comes to his physical feats- anything can be come a tightrope, a grind rail, a trapeze, or a trampoline in his hands if he needs it to.

Raz has a pretty huge arsenal of stock psychic powers, all of which usually manifest as bright orange in color.
Telekinesis lets him move/throw/shove/otherwise manipulate things with his mind, via a large, transparent hand. He’s also developed a kind of psychic hand-to-hand combat that lets him punch/slap/karate chop things with his telekinetic hands.
Pyrokinesis lets him set things on fire by thinking about it really hard.
Psi Blasts are MIND BULLETS that Raz fires from his forehead and are powered by his mental aggression.
Invisibility lets him turn invisible (surprise surprise), but it’s a little draining so he can only hold it for about a minute, and then he can’t do it again for a short period of time.
Levitation is more like floating than flying- Raz conjures up a thought balloon that he can balance, roll and hop on, which gives him a lot more speed than running and more air than jumping. He can also float safely from heights by hanging on to the balloon.
Shield creates a force field that protects Raz from most attacks, but he can’t move while projecting a shield and, like invisibility, he can only keep it up for a short period of time.
Clairvoyance lets Raz see through the eyes of other people and even some objects (like security cameras) in order to get a better view of his surroundings or an area he otherwise can’t see. He can also see what other people think of him if he looks at himself through their eyes.
Confusion grenades are green, question-mark shaped bombs that Raz can throw to disorient an opponent with confusion gas, which causes dizzyness, blurred vision and general disorientation for about a minute.

In addition to all of that, Raz also has telepathy, which allows him to hear other people’s thoughts. He doesn’t use it very often at all, and when he does overhear someone’s thoughts (namely, Lili’s), it comes as a surprise to him. In the game, he was also able to use astral projection to enter other people’s minds, but he had to use a special door-shaped apparatus called a Psycho-portal to do so. Since he stole borrowed Sasha Nein’s Psycho-portal for most of the game, I’m assuming he probably gave it back after dealing with the final boss, so he can’t do this anymore. :U

It should be noted that Raz's psychic abilities are downright prodigial. In the intro of the game, Raz is able to keep all three of the camp counselors (who are official, trained Psychonauts) from reading his mind, and it's implied that he doesn't even have to work hard to keep this subconscious mental shield up. He learned all of his skills in a span of less than 24 hours. He's really powerful.

Character HISTORY: This one time, at psychic summer camp...
Have another wiki link if that one's not enough!

Character PERSONALITY:
Raz is your typical 10-year-old kid… who also happens to be a psychic prodigy and an accomplished acrobat. From an early age, his father put him through grueling acrobatics training, where he perfected many of the physical skills he still uses. His father was well aware of his budding psychic powers and trained him especially hard in order to teach him the self-discipline and responsibility he would need when he started developing his psychic ability and keep himself safe from the many enemies their family had. Of course, the first time Raz really needed his skills, his family and their supposed enemies weren’t a factor at all (at least not until the very end), but his training still came in handy. Raz can be very responsible about his abilities when he wants to be, but he’s not above having a little fun with them every now and then. Shooting things is fun and useful, after all.

He’s enthusiastic about everything, and is going to give 110% at any task he sets himself to. He likes to memorize and study up almost obsessively about things that interest him, as demonstrated by his word-by-word recital of the Whispering Rock informative booklet that led him to the summer camp in the first place. He’s not shy about sharing his interests with others and will get extremely animated when he finds someone who will listen to him prattle on. Whether this makes him an endearing little kid or a loudmouthed know-it-all varies from person to person. If you can get past his occasional geeking out, Raz is pretty easy to get along with, as he’s very friendly and outgoing. He’ll most likely approach you first, anyway.

Raz tends to have a fairly romanticized view of the world. His desire to become a Psychonaut comes from the hours he spent reading True Psychic Tales comic books, and even after getting first-hand experience in grappling with various types of psychosis (including his own!), he still has a very sensational, exaggerated view of the things they do. His ever-so-slightly rose-tinted view of the world leads him to be a little (okay, VERY) reckless, and he’ll charge headfirst into dangerous situations, fully confident that he can handle it. He hasn’t quite realized that he’s not invincible, and even gets indignant when he’s told to hang back because something is too dangerous.

Despite his recklessness, Raz is prone to bursts of maturity, intelligence, and wit beyond his years. When he DOES get in over his head (spoiler: happens a lot), he stays remarkably calm about it and deals with it the best he can… unless water is involved (we’ll get to that later). It’s also worth noting that he completed all of the training required to become a full-fledged Psychonaut within a span of 24 hours. Granted, there were lots of extenuating circumstances, but saying that’s impressive is a massive understatement. “Become a Psychonaut” was always pretty high on his list of priorities during his exploits at Whispering Rock, but once he became privy to the sinister forces at work, stopping what had been put into motion (and saving Lili) was his biggest concern, even when all the other children at the camp had shrugged it off as somebody else’s problem.

Raz has super drowning skills a crippling water phobia that stems from a legend about a curse upon his family, cast by a rival group of psychic gypsies. The curse, known as the Hand of Galochio, causes a ghostly, aquatic hand to reach out of water and drag an Aquato family member under, presumably to drown screaming and thrashing. Fortunately, the curse only seems to come into effect in water that’s deep enough for a person to submerge themselves in, such as a lake, so being in the rain and bathing are safe to do. Oddly enough, no one else seems to really notice the hands, so it’s entirely possible that it’s all in Raz’s head and he might even be creating hallucinations with his own psychic power. Of course, it still doesn’t change the fact that upon contact with deep water, he goes into full-on panic mode and is totally unable to function. Even just seeing a large body of water is enough to cause him to freeze up.

» EXSILIUM INFORMATION
Chosen WEAPON: Raz is a fighter, but not a weapon user. As such, his chosen weapon will be his own psychic powers. Even though he's post-game, I'm going to say that he has learned all of psychic powers listed in his abilities section, but they are not upgraded yet, so he'll have something to evolve as he improves his skills. FOR EXAMPLE:
Psi Blast: Eventually, his PSI Blasts will ricochet off of several targets before dissipating
Pyrokinesis: He will be able to cause small explosions in addition to setting things ablaze
Invisibility: He'll be able to stay invisible longer (a few minutes at most)
Levitation: The more speed he builds up while rolling on the ball, the more damage it will do when it collides with something else. It's called Wrecking Ball in the game for a reason.
Shield: He can keep the shield up longer, and will push back/harm enemies that attack it directly.
Telekinesis: He'll be able to manipulate objects from farther away and his psychic attacks will be stronger.
Confusion Grenades: The disorientation effect will last longer.
On top of all of that, he will also eventually be able to use his abilities more often and with less exhaustion.

Character INVENTORY: Raz's clothes and a backpack decorated with merit badges. Everything in his backpack is... actually kinda useless outside of mental worlds/Whispering Rock. Unless you guys need an old piece of bacon, a dowsing rod, and a mental cobweb duster? Yeah, didn't think so. The only real thing of note is a tattered notebook he writes his to-do list and other notes in.

First PERSON:
[A young boy appears on the screen, a serious expression and huge bug-eye goggles on his face. He gives a curt salute to the camera.]

Greetings, Initiative! I'm pleased to announce that you now have an ace Psychonaut joining your ranks! Agent Razputin Aquato here, reporting for duty!

[He lifts the goggles up on his aviator's cap, then grins.] But you guys can call me Raz!

[He inches closer to the screen, his hands balled up in fists with anticipation.] So is this actually for real? Do we really get to time travel? 'Cause that sounds SO COOL. SO. COOL. Have you guys ever seen a dinosaur? How about met your great-great-great-great grandmother? Can we go back in time and hang out with famous people? Or is that against the time rules? Lemme guess, we're not allowed to go back and meet our past selves because that would wipe out time forward and backwards, wouldn't it?

[It's like everything this kid knows about time travel he learned from comic books. Oh wait.]

Third PERSON:
Some would call this place drab. Depressing. War-torn and gray. But where most would see stark and boring, Raz saw endless possibilities. He stood atop a lamppost, hands on his hips as he surveyed his surroundings, and wondered where should I go today?

He had his reservations about this whole Initiative thing at first. He had a girlfriend now! And a father-son relationship to repair! And he had just saved the world and become a Psychonaut at long last! Did I mention the girlfriend already? He had so much going for him, and then, BAM, transported to another world. Gotta hate when that happens.

But then, Raz figured he was going about this the wrong way. This was an opportunity, so to speak. A way to show off further prove himself and hone his skills. Show everyone that saving the world once wasn't just a fluke. He would save it again! A completely different, world, even! He would- well, okay, they won him over at "time travel". But he really did think about these things.

It was the same thing with this city, you know? Yeah, it was pretty much a dump, but it was full of stuff to climb! None of his skills would get rusty here, that was for sure.

"All right, big city, let's see what you've got!" He said to no one in particular as he summoned up his levitation ball and hopped off the lamppost.

» ADDITIONAL NOTES
I played him previously in Mayfield but he's going to be a clean slate here.

[MERRY CHRISTMAS.

HAPPY NEW YEAR.

EVERY MAILBOX ON BRADY LANE IS ON FIRE.

YOU'RE WELCOME.

here's hoping it doesn't spread!

If you're wondering, the perpetrator is standing outside 339 Brady, warming his hands on his handiwork. Ah, fire, is there anything it's not good for?]
ra_ra_razputin: (I'm not doing anything illegal officer!)
[Raz was woken up this morning when his head slammed into the headboard of his bed. Upon sitting up, he realizes that his feet are dangling over the end. Did his bed shrink overnight, or is he... getting... bigger...

Oh, hi not!family and immediate neighbors of 339 Brady Lane. Guess who just burst through the roof of the house and is wearing it like a hat?

IT'S GOGGALOR.]

[phone]

[Don't ask how, but Goggalor has somehow managed to get a hold of a telephone and is whispering as quietly as he can into the receiver.]

Guys! Guys! Listen up! I've done this before so I know what to do! First of all, don't raise your voice unless you want to burst everyone's eardrums! Second, as long as you walk in the middle of the roads, you should be able to avoid crushing people. Third, watch out for telephone poles! Tripping on those hurts like a mother! Okay, I think that about covers it.Any questions?

[Action: All over town]

[There is no way that Goggalor is NOT going to have fun with this. Too bad Mayfield doesn't have any skyscrapers to climb on. He's going to settle for chasing a bunch of screaming drones down the street, taking care not to accidentally step on any of them since they are real people and not citizens of an imaginary metropolis inside a mutated lungfish's head.

Still, the screams coming from the tiny, tiny drones below are... pleasing.]
ra_ra_razputin: (All right! A crowbar!)
Guys! I was a zombie! It was so cool! The only thing cooler than being a zombie is being a zombie hunter! Or a vampire hunter! Or an astronaut!

Oh, uh, I don't think I ate anyone? If I did eat your brain then, uh... sorry, that was my bad.

[Private to Lili]

Turns out you were right after all. Sorry if I made you worry. Um, look, I promise I don't go crazy and throw exploding milk at houses or turn into a zombie all the time, I swear!

So, uh, if you're not angry at me or anything, wanna go to the homecoming dance?
ra_ra_razputin: (wat)
[Somebody at 339 Brady didn't drink their milk today.

If you live on Brady lane, Raz is standing outside on your lawn, a vacant smile on his face that just screams "droned". He's got a milk bottle in one hand, and many more are lying in a pile at his feet.

They are stuffed with gasoline and rags and the one he's holding is on fire. UH OH.]
ra_ra_razputin: (Raz demands an explanation for this BS!)
[A party sounded like fun! A pool party, however... not so much. Raz knew his curse didn't work in Mayfield but that didn't stop him from dreading sizable bodies of water. You don't get over a lifetime of being told that you're destined to die in water that easily. He really wanted to go, but the very idea of voluntarily getting into a pool seemed crazy! And Raz knew crazy.

So there he was, pacing back and forth by the telephone trying to work up the nerve. He had to beat it: he couldn't stay afraid of water forever! But he knew that once he took that first step, there would be no going back. Finally he picked up the receiver and took a deep breath.]

................Hi.

Uh. So how about that pool party? It's gonna be fun, huh? Um. I was wondering. Is there anybody who's going who could... maybe... teach me how to swim...? You don't have to if you don't want to! I can just stay home if it's gonna be a big hassle! Actually, staying home sounds like a great idea! I think I'll do that! Forget I said anything! [SLAM.]

[If anybody needs Raz for anything, he'll just be beating his head against the wall in frustration.]
ra_ra_razputin: (wat)
[Oh jeez, who let Raz's drone near the phone?]

Hi, everybody! Gee, it sure is a swell day here in Mayfield! Now that the weather's nice, I can play baseball again! I can't wait to try out for the team this yea-

[He cuts off. If you're at 339 Brady Lane, you can see the dopey drone smile disappear from his face as he stares blankly at the wall, blinking in confusion.]

...Huh? This isn't the cafeteria. How'd I get home...?

[He looks down and realizes he's holding the phone receiver.]

Uh. Sorry, I forgot what I was gonna say.

[Hangs up. Awkwaaaard. Call him back, y/n?]
ra_ra_razputin: (Raz demands an explanation for this BS!)
[It's a beautiful, albeit boring, late winter's day in Mayfield, and there's absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. At least, not until a very small pony comes galloping around the corner, followed by an exasperated Raz in hot pursuit, running on his levitation ball as fast as he can.]

Get back here! How can something with such stubby little legs move so fast?

[THEY ARE NOT LOOKING WHERE THEY ARE GOING. You should maybe get out of the way. Just sayin'.]
ra_ra_razputin: (Oh noes!)
Have some TL;DR )

[Later, Raz can be found sitting on the front step of his house. His goggles have been tossed to the side. He's rubbing his eyes and making rather suspicious hiccuping sounds.]
ra_ra_razputin: (Raz demands an explanation for this BS!)
[Raz is a busy bee today. If you happen by 339 Brady Lane today, you might see him in the middle of what appears to be an ambitious project that involves tearing apart the house's nice, whitewashed picket fence and nailing the planks to all of the windows and the back door. Fortunately, his telekinesis makes the job a little easier, but it's obvious he's distracted as he keeps glancing over his shoulder for ... something. He's already managed to drop a few planks, a hammer, and once he even tripped and tumbled off the roof over the front porch, but he's just in too much of a hurry to stop and nurse the bruises. The exterior of the house is understandably a mess before he's even halfway finished. PESTER HIM Y/N?]
ra_ra_razputin: (Epic)
[First, Raz got eliminated from the tournament in the first round. Then Aoi got droned. Then Mitsuru got droned. And today he found Thailand was droned. He didn't want to think any of them were permanently gone, but the days were passing, and Aoi and Mitsuru hadn't snapped out of it yet.

And the days were still passing. He had only just realized that it was the end of September. He'd been in Mayfield for over a year. He was no closer to saving everyone than he was a year ago. He couldn't save Milla, he couldn't save his not!family, he couldn't even make it past round one in a stupid tournament. It was a lot for a ten- no, wait- eleven-year-old to handle, awesome psychic warrior or not.

Raz is avoiding his house for now. You might see him wandering around various places in town, but he's not rolling on his levitation ball or climbing on things he shouldn't be climbing on. He's just kind of drifting from place to place.]
ra_ra_razputin: (I'm not doing anything illegal officer!)
Hey guys! Raz is getting his Clairvoyance back as a regain. and since it works on other people I figured I'd make sure everybody was cool with it. Basically, Clairvoyance lets Raz literally see through other people's eyes. He can use it to spy on stuff and see into places he otherwise can't go. It's the power he got in the Milkman Conspiracy level, so it's about time he got it in Mayfield. :D

Here is how it works )

Here's some examples )

So TL;DR, lemme know if you're cool with Raz using Clairvoyance on your characters or not, as well as if you want him to get a hold of any personal belongings so he can do some long-distance spying (we can work it out either ICly or OOCly if you prefer). Also, if you have any ideas of what Raz would see if he looked at himself through their eyes that would be pretty cool, too. :D

I should probably note that this will be used sparingly. Unless he has a really good reason to, Raz won't be peeking in on you at all hours, and he'll probably save it for spying on the drones (which might not even work). Also, this isn't mind-reading: even though he CAN see what somebody thinks of him, he can't hear what they're thinking right then and there.
ra_ra_razputin: (Epic)
[Raz approaches the front door of 1487 Kramden St., just like has every day for... a while now. He hopes that maybe this time she'll be back to normal as he knocks on the door. "Milla" answers, looking a bit too happy, even for her.]

"Oh, hello again, Razputin! Did you have a good day at school?"

Uh, yeah, sure. Hey, Milla, what happened to all those clothes you dyed cool colors?

"Those ugly things? I packed them all away, of course. They were such an eyesore that I couldn't even stand to use them as dishrags! Why?"

No reason. Hey! What about cookies! Did you bake any cookies today?

"Now, now, Razputin, you know too much sugar will make you hyper! A growing boy like you needs something healthy! Why don't I fix you some carrot sticks and celery, instead?"

...Carrot... sticks...?

"They're nutritious and delicious~!"

...Carrot sticks. [He's not ready to admit defeat yet. If she's not going to snap out of it then he's just going to do it for her. He grabs her boring. non-tie-dyed skirt and tugs at it desperately. He might be trying to shake some sense into her but it's hard for a small child to do that to a grown adult.]

Agent Vodello! You have to wake up! They've got you brainwashed but I KNOW you're still in there somewhere! There's still a ton of work to do! Official Psychonauts Business! You remember, right?

["Milla" swats Raz's hands away and gives him a stern look.]

"Razputin! Were you raised in a barn? That was very rude, young man! Just for that, I want you to sit out here and think about what you've done!"

[She slams the door on Raz's face. For a few minutes he just stands there and stares at it.]
ra_ra_razputin: (Do what in the what now?)
[Filtered from drones]

Has everybody seen the note by now?

...Does this mean that all the drones are real people? Just like us?
ra_ra_razputin: (Are you pondering what I'm pondering?)
[Well, this was odd. Like everyone else, Raz noticed how the calendars had turned themselves back a week. However, he had never paid much attention to Mother's or Father's Day before, and it hadn't occurred to him what exactly was going on. And with all of those back issues of True Psychic Tales on the brain, there was only one conclusion he could think of...]

Guys! We've gone back in time! We have to be careful not to change the past or else we might unravel the time line and destroy the future!

Shoot, what was I even doing last Sunday...?
ra_ra_razputin: (READ A BOOK)
[Raz was a little bummed at first when he found the large box addressed to him sitting at the mailbox. It was far too big for it to be one of his powers, but

but

comic books.

Now he's lying on his stomach in the yard outside his house, the box on its side and its contents spilling out: dozens of issues of a particular magazine entitled True Psychic Tales, with brightly-colored covers depicting various secret agent-types performing daring feats such as battling sea monsters, outsmarting evil geniuses, and saving the planet from alien invasions. The captions on the covers boast "Over 30 pages of full color excitement!!" and ask "Are YOU psychic? Take our quiz to find out!"

He's completely engrossed, but if you asked he would happily let you borrow a few, if only so he could have somebody else to talk about how totally awesome issue #254 was with that cliffhanger ending!!]
ra_ra_razputin: (Oh noes!)
Action at 339 Brady Lane )

[Call to EVERYONE EVER]
I'm looking for Milla Vodello. Has anyone seen her? If you have, tell her that Raz is looking for her, and that I'm okay!

[Well, no, he wasn't okay, but he would worry about that later. He would also put off any thought that Milla being in Mayfield meant she had to have died there, too. And if she wasn't back yet...]
ra_ra_razputin: (wat)
[Raz got his Shield ability back! Rejoice! He's certainly doing plenty of it. In fact, he's out in front of his house, ready to test it out. It works like a charm, and a round, glowing, orange energy field appears around him. In fact, it works even better than before! He doesn't even have to concentrate very hard, AND he can move around in it too! He's never been able to do that!]

Hey! This is great!

[Raz does a few laps around the front lawn in his new mobile shield. Man, this'll make things so much easier! He can't possibly see a downside to this... until he tries to turn it off. And it won't disappear.]

Huh? Why isn't it going away?

[He starts pounding on the inside of the shield, starting to get a little panicked.]

What's going on? Lemme out of here! This isn't funny!

[He pounds on it a little harder, but to no avail. He is trapped. In what is essentially a giant hamster ball.]

I hate this place.

((OOC: Raz is stuck inside his shield. Feel free to pick on him or roll him down the street or whatever!))
ra_ra_razputin: (excuse me wtf r u doin)
[Raz has been picking the receiver up and putting it back down for a solid hour.

And the phone just won't stop ringing.

He is pretty sure he is slowly going insane.]

I will not set the phone on fire. I will not set the phone on fire. I will not set the phone on fi-

[RIIING!]

I'm gonna set the phone on fire.
