[Raz was a little bummed at first when he found the large box addressed to him sitting at the mailbox. It was far too big for it to be one of his powers, but

but

comic books.

Now he's lying on his stomach in the yard outside his house, the box on its side and its contents spilling out: dozens of issues of a particular magazine entitled True Psychic Tales, with brightly-colored covers depicting various secret agent-types performing daring feats such as battling sea monsters, outsmarting evil geniuses, and saving the planet from alien invasions. The captions on the covers boast "Over 30 pages of full color excitement!!" and ask "Are YOU psychic? Take our quiz to find out!"

He's completely engrossed, but if you asked he would happily let you borrow a few, if only so he could have somebody else to talk about how totally awesome issue #254 was with that cliffhanger ending!!]

Those are...western comics right?

From: [identity profile] ra-ra-razputin.livejournal.com
Nah, they're more like... science fiction or mystery. Although there IS one that takes place at a cattle ranch, and a herd cryokinetic cows are being held hostage! Lemme see if I can find it!

[Starts digging through the pile, unaware that he just misinterpreted the question.]

Ah! Here it is! Issue #136! The Cryo-Cow Caper! This was a good one! [hands it over]

Well, close: cows that can freeze things with their psychic powers!

Even better!

[Oh, hey. Spy knows this tiny, big-headed child. He belongs to Milla and is therefore slightly less annoying than most of the other children in Mayfield.]

So zhis is what zhey gave you, hmm? I suppose eet is a reward for surviving longer zhan most of zhe ozhers.

[He nudges a magazine with his foot.]

What are zhey? Comics?

[Oh hey, is that a ridiculous tan Spy is sporting there? Feel free to point and laugh, Raz. Really. Have a ball.]

[And Raz recognizes that snooty French accent!]

These? These are only the most important publication of our time!

[Raz digs around in the pile and produces a seemingly random issue. He offers it up to Spy, and finally notices his terrible tan. And snerks.]

From: [identity profile] never-any-doubt.livejournal.com
[Spy ignores the snerking, instead idly flipping through the issue -- #236, from the looks of the front cover.]

Hm. And zhese are true stories? Forgive me if I don't believe zhat zhe Bermuda Triangle is actually caused by a gigantic sea serpent.

[No really. http://2.media.tumblr.com/6fmeZsLUrk7tmpprcaB6jc2Fo1_500.jpg ]

Oh, man, that was a great issue! And it IS true! The corpse is in a museum somewhere now!

You know your face is all splotchy, right? [sneeerk]

[Spy shuts the magazine with a sneer.]

Oui, you leetle cretin, I do know.

You got that back with all the scars, didn't you?

[Spy lets out a long, shaky sigh. He knows that if he does anything to this child, he'll have a million years of Brazilian wrath rained down upon his head.]

Oui. I did. I would have preferred scars I never had to zhis atrocity.

I can see why you're so bent out of shape about it now. So, uh, what happened to cause that, anyway?

[Spy shifts somewhat uncomfortably, flipping through the comic he was handed instead. Pfft. Typical ridiculous plotline. This is worse than Saxton Hale's (http://tf2wiki.net/w/images/thumb/d/db/Saxton_fire.jpg/421px-Saxton_fire.jpg) comics (http://tf2wiki.net/wiki/File:Saxton_haircut.jpg) line (http://tf2wiki.net/w/images/thumb/c/c2/Mailstorm_large.jpg/433px-Mailstorm_large.jpg).]

Eet comes from a particular aspect of my current employment. Unavoidable, but generally unnoticeable. Unless I am without my mask.

[Raz would probably eat those up, too.]

Jeez, did you, like, wear it in your off hours, too? Or did you just work in a desert?

From: [identity profile] never-any-doubt.livejournal.com
Both, actually.

[He might as well stay here. Perhaps being out in the sun will start to get rid of his tan, after all. He sits cross-legged and awkward, picking through the piles and piles of comics with only vague interest.]

Are zhese really true or is zhe name just an exercise in irony?

Well, duh! They wouldn't call them true if they weren't would they?

[Sasha's in True Psychic tales, even she's not, but it's half propaganda and half truth. Really, if anybody was trying to gain information on the Psychonauts from these books they'd be hilariously misinformed. A secret organization does not just publish their working secrets in a comic book, after all. Currently wandering over and shaking her head somewhat affectionately at the comic books.]

...Sasha did not take down two kraken. He took down...one. And it was a special mission that he spent forever preparing for. [but she realizes that if she says much more she's going to ruin Razputin's enjoyment and so she clams up and tries to point out the lesser known agents, usually as two bit characters running around in the background.]

That agent? In the blue? He was one of the greatest when I was in Whispering Rocks.

From: [identity profile] ra-ra-razputin.livejournal.com
[Whatever you do, don't tell Raz that. Everything he thinks he needs to know about being a Psychonaut he learned from this magazine. Which explains a lot.

Well, the issue before that had a giant, telekinetic squid, so I bet they just changed the story a little so it didn't seem that repetitive, ya know?

[Points to the agent in question] You mean this guy? Did he really take down that Canadian drug cartel all by himself? I bet he was a great counselor!

[brb crushing childhood dreams~~~ except for not because this is Milla.
Instead she bemusedly shakes her head, plopping down on the grass next to Raz.]

Indeed, darling, indeed. Can't miss anything now, can you, Razputin?

[she ruffles his hair before hugging him close.]
Of course he did. He wasn't a good counselor though, he was always away on missions. But when he taught, he was brilliant!

Man, I would have liked to learn from him... [Realizes what he just said] N-not that you and Agent Nein are bad teachers, of course! Far from it!

From: [identity profile] hartmanhips.livejournal.com
[there's a sort of bemused glance before she ruffles his hair again.] I can't blame you. He was a very good Agent! But it's been a long time since I read the comic books, so if you wouldn't mind telling me about what's happened since the Robotic Bunny in Tokyo line?

From: [identity profile] ra-ra-razputin.livejournal.com
What hasn't happened since then? There was this whole story arc with a secret confusion gas missile silo hidden in the Rocky Mountains, and turns out that the terrorists that everyone thought had hijacked it were actually just trying to protect the Sasquatch that had moved in. Oh! And the one with the scientist who tried to take over the world with mind control soda! I think I have that one around here somewhere... [reaches into the pile and starts rummaging.]

Man, I can't wait until I get to be on the cover of an issue!
